Ann Flannery
THE MORTUARY RECORD.
Mrs. Ann Flannery.
Last Sunday evening death's messenger summoned Mrs. Ann Flannery from among the living. Most people dread death, but to some death cometh as a messenger of peace. Old age and decrepitude had long laid their hands upon both the body and mind. Seventy-four years of toil and labor had crowned the head with silver and traced time's furrows upon her brow. She was a native of the Emerald Isle, born in Tumivari in the county of Tipparary in April, 1821. She bore her maiden name, Ann Kennedy, until 1844, when she was married to Patrick Flannery, of the same place. To better their condition in this time and urged by the general rush of emigration, they came to America in 1847 and settled in New York state, eleven miles south of the city of Buffalo. There they lived on a farm until 1858, when they came to Chesterton, remaining for about a year, when they located on a farm in Liberty township near the B. & O. R. R. They again moved back to Chesterton some fourteen years ago. Her husband died here in April, 1885. She led a quiet and retired life. When some five years ago she visited one of her sons in Chicago, going out on the icy sidewalk, she slipped, fell, and injured herself, resulting in concussion of the brain. Ever since she had been ailing more or less, until the last five months, when she was no longer able to leave her bed. The last two weeks she was kindly cared for by a sister from St. Joseph's hospital of Joliet. She leaves three sons to mourn her loss, whereas two boys and one girl proceded her on the road to eternity. The funeral services took place at St. Patrick's church on Tuesday morning; a large concourse of people accompanying the remains of the aged pioneer to the cemetery. May her soul rest in peace.
