Jacob Fisher

OLD VETERAN MEETS DEATH SUDDENLY
(From Thursday's Daily)

Jacob Fisher, commander of the Grand army, Chaplain Brown post, met sudden death today when he fell from his wagon near the William Bartz farm, just northeast of the city. Walter Bartz, seeing Mr. Fisher's horse and wagon, homeward bound alone, stopped the horse, and, returning on the course, found the driver breathing his last at the roadside. Everything possible was done on the spot to restore vitality. Two doctors rushed with all speed from this city, but they were too late. The body was removed to the home on East Main street, and the distressing news of the death soon spread to all quarters of the city.

Mr. Fisher left this morning for his big woods on a tract of land northeast of town, and was returning when he fell from the load. It is believed apoplexy caused the fall, and this, coupled with the blow, brought death. A post mortem will determine.

Mr. Fisher had been in good health for one of his years. Day after day he had been circulating on the streets and enjoying himself with his numerous friends. Last fall he was elected commander of the Grand Army, and duly installed in January. His death is a heavy blow to his old comrades, and calls to mind the fact that the ranks are rapidly thinning.

For a number of years Mr. Fisher had resided here. Mrs. Fisher died a little over a year ago. A large family of grown children survive, namely: Niles Fisher, Mrs. Cora Benham, Mrs. Walter Brown, of this city; Clarence Fisher, of Morgan township; Sam Fisher, of Salt Lake City, and Frank Fisher, or Bozeman, Mont.
