Dr. Ellis

LOCAL NEWS.
Dr. Ellis, a former resident of Wheeler, but of late years, of Kouts, committed suicide last Monday by shooting himself. He was an old man between 65 and 70 years of age, and a victim of Dr. Morrical's tubular rail scheme. He lost everything he had through Morrical's rascality, and killed himself in a fit of despondency.

[Note: In the August 1, 1889, issue of The Tribune {Volume 6, Number 16, Page 4, Column 4}, appears the following item -- LOCAL NEWS. Mr. Newton Yost was in town last Tuesday, and informs The Tribune that the item which appeared in last week's issue, stating that Dr. Ellis, formerly of Wheeler, had shot himself, was incorrect. Mr. Scofield, station agent at Crisman, saw a son of Dr. Ellis last Sunday, and he said that his father was all right. There was a Dr. Ellis, living in Wheatfield, Ind., who was a druggist, who shot himself. The Tribune got its first information from J. W. Jones, of this place, who was evidently mistaken. The many friends of the Dr. Ellis in question, living hereabouts, will be glad to learn that the report was incorrect.]
