Nicolas Ehlen
Coroner's Inquest Report.
STATE OF INDIANA, Porter County, SS:
BE IT REMEMBERED, That on the 24th day of December, 1878, information was given to me that the dead body of a man lay in Westchester township, in the said state and county, supposed to have come to his death by violence or casualty, and I thereupon caused a jury to be summoned, sworn and charged to ascertain so far as possible the cause and circumstances of said death. Witnesses accordingly were called and sworn and their material evidence reduced to writing, signed by both said jury and myself and filed in the Clerk's office of said county; whereupon said jury made their verdict that decedent's name was Nicholas Ehlen, that he was 42 years old, of dark complexion, 5 feet 6 inches high, dressed in common business clothing, and that he came to his death by a shot from a navy revolver held and fired by one Charles Stevens, of the county of Porter and state of Indiana. No valuables being found about his person, and no friends appearing to take charge of him, his body was committed to the charge of the township trustee for burial at public cost.
WM. C. PARAMORE,
Coroner of Porter County.
