Mary Duval
OBITUARY.
Died at her residence in Valparaiso, August 16th, 1879, in the 62d year of her age, Mrs. Mary Duval, wife of Sylvester Duval.
She was a native of Pennsylvania, born March 10th, 1818. she was religious from her youth. After coming West, she by some means, lost her church-membership, but continued to lead a Christian life, outside of the church fellowship. She had lived in Valparaiso 21 years. When she came here, Rev. S. T. Cooper was pastor of the M. E. church, and he found her out, baptized her, and took her into the church, of which she remained a consistent member till death. She had been a great sufferer for three years, but she suffered in Christian patience, was resigned, uncomplaining, and "endured as seeing Him who is invisible." Her sufferings are ended, and she is at rest in that beautiful land of which it is divinely written: -- "And there shall be no more curse, &c."
As a Christian, a wife and mother she was all that those terms imply, faithful and true, in all those relations. It was her dying request that Rev. S. T. Cooper should preach her funeral sermon, but he could not be reached in time, and Rev. Mr. Brakeman officiated, choosing as his text 2 Cor. IV. 17-18: "For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things that are not seen are eternal." The family desire hereby to express their thanks to the kind friends who have been so sympathizing, and so attentive to the deceased during her long illness.
A FRIEND.
