Chloe Doud
OBITUARY.
CARTER. -- At her home in Jackson township, Feb. 14, 1879, after a short illness, Mrs. Chloe Carter, wife of Jacob Carter, in the 74th year of her age.
Miss Chloe Doud was born in Connecticut March 31, 1805. She was married to Jacob Carter June 18, 1836. She came with her husband to Porter county in 1837, where she has lived ever since, patiently enduring the privations and hardship of a frontier life in the wilderness. She became a follower of Christ in early lfe, and to the time of her death manifested a true devotion to the cause of religion and humanity, performing every Christian duty with cheerfulness, until after a long life of usefulness the God in whom she believed and trusted said, "It is enough; come up higher." At home she was a devoted wife and mother, ever watchful and careful for the comfort and interest of her family. To the world she was a general benefactor, none wanting kindness and attention she was able to bestow; at the bedside of the sick she was found administering to the wants and comforts of the sufferer, and many a poor sufferer in future will miss the cheerful presence and kind attention of Grandma Carter. During her last illness she was patient and enduring, passing peacefully from earth into the arms of her Savior, thus powerfully evincing the truth that "Blessed are the dead who died in the Lord." She leaves an aged husband and five living children to mourn her loss, three children having preceded her.
