LOCAL.
Phillip Conlon, a newphew of Mrs. John Howe, of this city, a man 30 years old, and employed in the Sherman House, Chicago, was accidently killed, about 4 o'clock last Saturday morning. He had returned from a ball given by the 2d regiment at McCormick's Hall, and entered the elevator, which leads to the servant's quarters. Upon reaching the fifth floor, and supposing it to be the sixth, where the elevator stops of its own accord, he opened the door and was in the act of stepping out, when his head was caught between the upper portion of the door-frame and the elevator, and crushed, killing him instantly. The coroner held an inquest during the afternoon and returned a verdict of accidental death. His remains were brought to this city last Sunday evening, and were taken charge of by Mr. and Mrs. John Howe. The funeral service was conducted at St. Paul's Church last Monday forenoon by Father O'Reilly, and the body, although the roads were in bad condition, was followed by a large number of friends and neighbors to the Catholic Cemetery.
