DIED.
CLIFFORD. -- On Wednesday, Jan. 13th, at the Convent School in Peru, Ind., Miss Kate Clifford, in religion Sister Mary Philomene, daughter of Mr. Dennis Clifford, of Liberty Township, aged 21 years and four months.
Two years ago last September, this excellent young lady left her parents and home to devote herself, during life, to the education of the ignorant, the care of the sick, or the orphan, or the discharge of any charitable work that could be done by a "Sister" under the direction of the order of which she became a member. Sister Philomene was not considered dangerously sick before her death, although she complained of being somewhat unwell the previous day or two, nor until a few moments before her departure, was there any alarm. She died fortified by the Holy Sacraments, retaining her senses to the last moment, and uniting in the prayers for the departing soul with the sisters who offered up their devotions around her bed. The Sisters of Providence, although preferring to have her corpse buried in their own cemetery at St. Mary's near Terre Haute, very kindly allowed her friends to take her remains to the family burial place in St. Paul's Cemetery. Her funeral took place here on last Saturday, and although the day was very cold, a large procession followed her to the grave. The Young Ladies' Sodality of which she was a member before becoming a Sister, took charge of the funeral ceremonies. "May her soul rest in peace."
