Saphronia Chase
OBITUARY.
Mrs. Saphronia Chase was born at Hoosick, Rennselaer co., New York, March 5, 1803, was married to Mr. Cyrus P. Chase in 1824, became the mother of 10 children 4 of whom still live, came to this place in August 1860 and has lived here ever since until her death last Thursday at the age of 80 years, 5 months and 11 days, her death occurring about 10 years after that of her hunsband. She had been declining many months, and 10 long weeks confined to bed and so distressed for breath as to require incessant fanning night and day. She was however patient, bearing pain with wonderful endurance. Her gentle, practically pious ways had made of all acquaintances her sympathizing friends. Her funeral was held at her son-in-law Alfred Kellogg's where she spent the last months of her life, and was conducted by Rev. Mr. Lang, of Joliet, Ill., Universalist, such having been the lady's faith, the sermon being very eloquent, effective and appropriate, avoiding all sectarian distinctive sentiments. The first prayer of the services was made by Elder Boyd, the M. E. pastor, and was quite in harmony with the occasion.
