FUNERAL SERMON
Delivered by Rev. Robt. Beer on the Death of Mrs. Elizabeth Buel.
OBITUARY.
BUEL. -- On Friday, December 16th, 1881, of congestion of the lungs, MRS. ELIZABETH BUEL, aged 70 years, 10 months, 13 days.
Elizabeth Hollister was born in Tioga county, New York, February 3d, 1811.
Died, December 16th, 1881, at Valparaiso, Ind., in the 71st year of her age.
Married to Thomas J. Buel October 8th, 1829, in her 19th year.
They came to Porter county, Indiana, July 6th, 1837, forty-five years ago next July, settling about six miles south-west of this place. There Mr. Buel died March 21st, 1847, leaving her a widow for nearly forty-five years.
She united with the Presbyterian Church at Candor, Tioga county, N. Y., at a date unknown, and was received by letter of dismission from that church into the Presbyterian Church of Valparaiso March 18th, 1843, so that in March next her membership with us would have reached a period of thirty-nine years.
She was the mother of four children, all of whom remains with us. She was a good wife, a faithful mother, a kind neighbor. She lived as a humble Christian, loving the sanctuary and place of prayer. She was sustained in suffering by the grace of God, bore her pains without murmuring, looked into the face of death without fear, died the death of the righteous, and has entered into rest.
[Note: There is a three column sermon from the funeral service, but it contains no mention of Elizabeth Buel. Rather, it discusses why sermons are preached to the young and old.]
