William E. Brown
Drowned.
Of the death by drowning at Three Oaks, Mich., of William Brown, whose mother formerly lived in this county and who is extensively related here, The Sun of that place says:
"William E. Brown, aged 16 years and 3 months, son of Charles C. and Cinthia C. Brown, of this village, was accidentally drowned in what is known as Fitch's Lake, two miles south-east of this village Tuesday afternoon, about 5 o'clock. Earl had been a compositor in the Sun office for many months, he went to the lake on Tuesday, with another young man named Will Vanderlin. The deceased while standing in the water, lost his balance fell in deep water and while struggling Will caught hold of him several times but could not save him, he sank to the borrom in water 13 feet deep. Will ran about a half mile and gave the alarm; many people repaired to the lake and the search began, finally the body was located and Mr. Joseph Bramhall an expert swimmer went down and brought it to the surface; everything was done by the 3 physicians and other present to resuscitate the body; but life had become extinct, the body having lain in the water about 2 hours. The family are grief-stricken over this sudden and terrible calamity, Earl being their only son, and we can say one of the best boys we ever knew."
