Christina Blachley
Mrs. Christina Laughlin Blachley, widow of Dr. Cornelius Blachley, died at the residence of her son, Jospeh Blachley, which was also her home, on December 21, 1895. Her maiden name was Laughlin and she was born in Richmond county, Ohio, May 1, 1815. Consequently, she was, at the time of her decease, 80 years, 7 months and 21 days old.
She made a profession of religion and was baptized in March 1858, uniting with the Union Center Baptist Church, in which a series of revival meetings was being conducted by Elder Harry Smith, of Valparaiso. Ever afterwards she lived a true and faithful Christian life, proving the genuineness of her religion by her works.
A few days before her death she said to her son Joseph and her daughter Josephine: "We walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." 2 Cor. 5:78. This was her text, from which her funeral sermon was preached.
The beloved mother and dear Christian friend has gone where there will be "no more death, neither sorrow nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain." Earth's loss will be heaven's gain.
She leaves behind her three sons and four daughters, besides a number of grandchildren, who deeply mourn her loss. Her funeral took place from the residence of her son Joseph Blachley, Monday forenoon, Dec. 23rd, a goodly concourse of relative and sympathizing friends being present. She was laid to rest among relatives, who had gone before, in Blachley's cemetery, some four miles west of Valparaiso, Dr. Heagle, pastor of the Valparaiso Baptist Church, conducting the services.
