Mrs. John B. Bertrand
Obituary.
DIED. -- At Point An Roche, Beckmantown, N. Y., Jan. 1, 1886, Mrs. Bertrand, wife of John B. Bertrand, aged 70 years.
The death of Mrs. Bertrand was very sudden. She was holding a favorite grand-child in her arms, as she sat in her chair; and had just spoken caressingly to the child when the summons came and she fell forward, dead. The cause heart disease. She was distinguished throughout a wide circle of acquaintances for her kind disposition and sterling christian character as exemplified during her forty-five years of married life in her pleasant home; with her life partner who now mourns her loss. The deceased leaves four sons. Napoleon, who lives on the old homestead; George B., now practicing law in Omaha, Neb.; J. B. Jr., of Dakota, and Alexander Bertrand, U. S. Counsel at St. Johns, P. Q., and two daughters, all of whom with their father, share a large measure of public sympathy in this great bereavement. -- Platsburg Republican
Mrs. Bertrand was widely related in Valparaiso, and was an aunt of the Editor's mother Mrs. Elizabeth Bowser. The news of her sudden death was a great shock to her Porter County friends who greatly regret the loss of a dear relative.
