Jane Beeles

By the death of Mrs. Jane Beeles Aylesworth, relict of the late Ira B. Aylesworth, Porter county loses another of its old pioneers. Jane Beeles was born in Pennsylvania in 1819, and at an early age removed with her parents to Ohio, where her childhood and youth were spent. Here she joined the Presbyterian church, of which she was a consistent member for the remainder of her life, a period of over fifty years. On August 6, 1851, she was married to Ira B. Aylesworth, in Wayne county, Ohio, and four years later moved to Porter county, Ind., and with a few other pioneers began the work which has made possible the pleasant homes which we enjoy.

Industry and economy brought to them their reward, and many acres were added to the lands first taken up. Mr. Aylesworth died in 1875, and for several years after Mrs. Aylesworth continued to reside on the home farm. After her children had all married she left the farm, and for several years made her home with her youngest daughter, Mrs. Leeka, at Hebron, but for the past three years her home has been with her eldest daughter, Mrs. Massey, near Hebron.

Her health has been poor for several years, and she was attacked by her last sickness, which seemed to be more the result of a general wearing out than the ravages of any particular disease, about December 1, 1894, and for the last two months of her life she was a great sufferer, finding no relief excepting in the death which came on March 22. The funeral services were held at the residence of Jerome Massey, two miles east of Hebron, on Sunday, March 24. Rev. J. N. Buchanan, of the U. B. church, or Hebron, delivered the sermon.

A large concourse of friends followed her remains to their last resting place in Cornell cemetery, four miles east of Hebron. She leaves a family of six children, Mrs. Massey and Mrs. Leeka, and four sons, Phillip, John, Clinton and Eddie, to mourn her loss.
