Lola Bartholomew
THE COUNTY.
TASSINONG.
News was received on Tuesday week of death of Mrs. Lola Cullen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eli Bartholomew.
Faithful friends, she lies, I know,
Pale and white and cold as snow.
And you say Lola is dead!
Weeping at her feet and head.
I can see your falling tears;
I can hear your sighs and prayers.
Loving friends, be wise and dry
Straightway every weeping eye.
What you lift upon the bier
Is not worth a wistful tear;
'Tis an empty sea shell. One
Out of which the pearl is gone.
The shell is broken; it lies here;
The pearl -- the all -- the soul is there.
Farewell, friends, yet not farewell!
Where she is, you, too, shall dwell.
When you have gone where she has stepped
You will wonder why you wept.
