Cyrus Axe
Deaths.
Cyrus Axe is dead. Who could have thought such a thing two weeks ago? The news truly shocked the county, for Cyrus Axe was known by all, and is mourned by all. The grim messenger came upon him unawares. On Wednesday he was suddenly stricken down with heart trouble while down town. Friends promptly took him home and summonded medical aid. This happened about 4 o'clock and at 11 o'clock he was dead.
Cyrus Axe was a native of Wayne county, Ohio, born June 4, 1834. He came with his parents to Porter county when a small boy, which ever since has been his home. For years he dealt in live stock and kept a meat market. In 1886 he was elected county treasurer on the democratic ticket, and made one of the most memorable campaigns ever fought in this county. Though his party was then greatly in the minority, his popularity overrode party lines, and placed him in the Court House. He was again elected treasurer in 1888. Since retiring from the office he has not been actively engaged in business.
In 1865 Mr. Axe was united in marriage to Miss Harriet L. Finney, and to this union was born four children, all of whom are living. Mrs. Axe died in the early eighties, and the mother's place was filled by the daughter Hattie.
In the death of Cyrus Axe, Porter county looses a valuable citizen, the children a fond father. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon and was attended by people from all parts of the county.
