Samuel I. Anthony
In the circuit court on Friday last, Thos. J. Merrifield, Mark L. DeMotte and John E. Cass, a committee representing the bar of this county, moved the adoption of the following resolutions, and after hearing from various members of the bar in that behalf, they were ananimously adopted, and the court ordered said resolutions to be spread upon the records, and that the clerk transmit a copy of the same to the family of the deceased:
WHEREAS, Samuel I. Anthony, one of the oldest, most respected and honored members of this bar, was on the 12th day of February, A. D. 1878, suddenly stricken down by death while acting as Judge pro tem, of the Lake county circuit court; therefore,
Resolved, That we his brother attorneys deplore his death as a grievous loss, as well to the legal profession and the community, as to his family and immediate friends,
Resolved, That by his death, we have lost a gifted and learned associate, a pleasant companion and a warm-hearted and generous personal friend.
Resolved, That in our opinion, said decendent was an able lawyer, a safe counselor, an upright judge, and an honest and honorable man.
Resolved, That we hereby tender to his bereaved widow and relatives our heartfelt sympathy and condolence.
Resolved, That the circuit court of Porter county be requested to spread these resolutions upon the records of said court, and direct the clerk thereof to certify a copy hereof, under seal, to the widow of said deceased.
