Hull Andrews
THE COUNTY.
HEBRON.
Our town and community was terribly shocked last Sunday afternoon when the news came that Hull Andrews was drowned in the Kankakee river. Elmore Bryant, Alonzo Patrick and Hull went to the river to get blackberries. They went down the canal in a boat to the river. After they came to the river the boys got out and Hull said he would go out on the river. The boys told him he would better not go for he did not know how to handle the boat. He said he was not afraid. After he got out into the current he could not manage the boat and it commenced turning around. The boys tried to tell him. He said he was doing the best he could, and pretty soon he fell into the water and went down, leaving the boat right side up, not even dipping any water in it. He came up once, or his hands came out of the water and he went down again seemingly without a struggle and did not come up again. The boys were on the opposite side of the river and no boats were nearer than a half mile. Therefore they could no help him. The news came town about two o'clock p. m. and there were perhaps 150 or 200 people there before night looking for him. They continued the search until about 12 o'clock at night, and came home. Monday morning a large crowd of people with 30 or 40 boats commenced hunting for him, but at 5 p. m. that day he had not been found. He leaves a wife and one child, a mother and several brothers and sisters to mourn his loss. He was a good citizen and will be missed in the community.
