Frank Altenberg
Another Man Killed.
In becomes our province again to chronicle the death of a fellow being, that of Frank Altenberg, who was fatally injured by the cars at the Ft. Wayne depot Tuesday morning. He was head brakeman on the eastbound local. While doing some switching near the depot preparatory to the departure of the train he was thrown from a flat car, the engine and 2 cars passing over him. He had given the signal for the engineer to move the train backward. He did not prepare for the move, which, coming so suddenly caused him to slip and fall under the morning train. His left leg was broken in two places. Dr. Coate's, the railway company's physician at this place, was called to attend the wounded man, but no relief could be given, and he died about 3 hours after the accident. The cause of death was internal injury. Mr. Altenberg is German, a single man and a resident of Upper Sandusky, O., where he had a mother, brothers and sisters. He was taken to the Franklin House, his boarding place, and Mr Huppnau, the keeper, prepared him for burial. He was went home on the Tuesday evening train.
