Mrs. Philetus Abel
On Tuesday, Feb. 23, remembered as the icy day, Mrs. Philetus Abel, of this city, drawing water at the well slipped down and hurt herself, though not so badly as to cause alarm. It caused a hemorrhage, however, resulting in some rather settled fever. Neither friends or family physician, Dr. Hakinson, however, seemed to think her dangerous, until last Thursday, when she suddenly grew worse, and said she thought she never would recover, and requested that her oldest boy, who was at Mr. Frack's, on Morgan Prairie, should be sent for. This was done, and other friends were called in, but she died before her son or sister from the country, could arrive. Her funeral was conducted by Elder Meredith at the Luther School House on Sunday, and she was buried in that cemetery. She left a husband and two sons aged about four and six years respectively, to mourn their loss. Mrs. Abel was 25 years old. Her father and some other relatives live in Chicago, and some of them came here to attend her funeral.
