KOUTS

Mr. and Mrs. William Kneifel received a telegram from the War department that their son, PFC. Howard Kneifel, was missing. He has been in service since March 25, 1942, and served overseas in the Airborne outfit, 82nd Division, since a year ago last May. His last letter stated that he landed in France in a glider.

Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Kneifel have received the Purple Heart which was awarded for their son, P.F.C. Howard Kneifel, who was killed in France July 4, 1944. He was born in Kouts March 28, 1912, and was a graduate of Kouts high school. He was drafted March 26, 1942, and had his training in Louisiana and North Carolina before being sent across in April, 1943. He was in Africa, Sicily, Ireland, England and participated in the invasion of France. He was in the 325th Infantry. Besides his parents he is survived by five brothers and five sisters, Mrs. Alva White of Hammond, Wm. Kneifel of Hobart, Mrs. Sam Hall of Hebron, Mrs. Ellis Pullins, Robert Kneifel of Valparaiso, Mrs. Allen Hall, Mrs. Alvin Kleman, Arthur Kneifel and Lamber Kenifel of Kouts, besides a host of relatives and friends.

Purple Heart Posthumously To Howard Kniefel

Mr. and Mrs. William Kniefel, Kouts RFD 1, Wednesday received the Purple Heart which was awarded posthumously to their son, Howard Theodore Kniefel, of the glider division, who was killed in action in France on July 4, 1944. Young Kniefel landed in France on June 8. He is the second Kouts boy killed in action. Sgt. Howard Pumroy, member of the U. S. Marine Corps, was killed in action in the South Pacific in August, 1942.
