Bedenkop/Burdick Cemetery, Pine TownshipIndex of Bedenkop/Burdick Cemetery burials . . . .
The Bedenkop/Burdick Cemetery is located south of Burdick Road, east of 475
East, and north of the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railroad tracks. The
cemetery land is shaped as a triangle - bounded on the north by Burdick Road, on
the south by the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railroad tracks, and on the
east by a fence line. In
1876, the cemetery was on land owned by A. C. Burdick, and by 1906 the land was
owned by C. Bedenkop [northwest quarter of the southwest quarter of the
northwest quarter of Section 2].
The cemetery appears on Pine Township plat maps published in 1906, 1921, and
1938. The Burdick Christian Church once stood adjacent to the cemetery, as shown
in the 1921 plat map of Pine Township [see maps below].
Cemetery records maintained by the Northwest Indiana Genealogical Society
indicate that a tombstone for John Bedenkop and Musetta (Anderson) Bendenkop
once existed in the cemetery, along with a few other graves. The cemetery
reportedly can longer be found.
Interestingly, records of Beatty's Corners Cemetery in Coolspring Township,
LaPorte County, Indiana, indicate that the body of John Bedenkop was once
interred in that cemetery and later removed and interred in the Chesterton
Cemetery. The Beatty's Corners Cemetery records also reveal that Musette was
interred in Chesterton Cemetery upon her death. Chesterton Cemetery burial
records do indeed show that John and Musette are buried there. Collectively,
this information calls into question whether John and Musette were ever buried
in the Bedenkop/Burdick Cemetery.

Birth: January 2, 1836
Death: December 6, 1888
Obituary: Mrs. Margaret Orange. DIED. -- On Thursday, Dec. 6th at her home in
Burdick, Mrs. Margaret Orange, aged 52 years, 11 months. The funeral occurred on
Friday, the 7th inst., and the remains interred in the Burdick Cemetery. The

McCord. She was married to Thomas Orange on July 17th, 1855. From this union
there were four children, three of whom survive her, one having died May 2nd,

widowhood. She was sick for one year and nine months, and though her suffering
were severe, yet she was patient, and willing to go. She was rational to the
last. Her funeral was largely attended.

Please note that Margaret (McCord) Orange has a tombstone located in the Carter
Cemetery in Jackson Township, Porter County, Indiana, which suggests that the
newspaper notice provided above cites the incorrect cemetery for Margaret's
burial or that Margaret's remains were later moved to the Carter Cemetery.
