MILTON J. TAKE - The president and treasurer of the Take Chevrolet Sales Company, a formative automotive concern of Valparaiso, was born in Whiting, Indiana, on May 10, 1891, the son of Dr. J. F. and Isabelle (Haynes) Take, both of whom were natives of Rockford, Michigan. They removed to Whiting in 1889, and to them were born two children - the other being Lena, who also lives in Valparaiso.
Milton J. Take received his education in Valparaiso. On April 27, 1918, he enlisted in the Aviation Corps for World war service, and was sent to Purdue University, where he remained for seven weeks; he was sent after that period to Camp Mills, and on July 17. 1918, landed at Liverpool, England. In the same month he was sent to St. Mihiel front, where he served with the Three Hundred Fifteenth Ammunition Train of the Ninetieth Division, which was composed chiefly of Texas and Oklahoma troops. His service overseas covered a period of one year, and he returned to Boston Harbor on July 8, 1919; two weeks later he was mustered out of service at Camp Taylor.
Shortly thereafter he entered the service of the Grantham Sales Agency of Gary, and in 1922 was placed in charge of the Chevrolet agency in Valparaiso. This corporation was formed January 1, 1926, under the name of Take Chevrolet Sales Company, the capital stock being $25,000. The present corporate officers are: M. J. Take, president and treasurer; J. F. Grantham, vice president; Kate Longshore, secretary; and F. W. Alpen and Earl Gordon, directors. Mr. Take is the active director of the concern.
His marriage was with Irene, daughter of W. W. and Myrtle McWhinney of Valparaiso; to this marriage were born two children: William Milton and Marjory Janet. Mr. Take is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and the various Masonic bodies.
