EDWARD J. RYAN was born in Savanna, Illinois, on January 23, 1903, the son of James A. and Margaret (Dwyer) Ryan, the former of whom was born in Buffalo, New York, and the latter in County Cork, Ireland. Edward J. Ryan is the only child born to his parents.
His education was secured in the common and high schools of Savanna, Illinois, and Campion College at Prairie-du-chien, Wisconsin. He took his preparatory legal work at Columbia College at Dubuque, Iowa, and then entered the University of Notre Dame, where he received the degree of LL. B. in 1925. In the same year he became associated with the trust department of the Illinois Merchants' Trust Company of Chicago, and in February, 1926, came to Valparaiso as a partner of D. E. Kelly in the practice of law.
He was admitted to the Porter County Bar Association in the same year, and is also a member of the State Bar Association. His fraternal affiliations are with the Knights of Columbus, of which lodge he is advocate, and is also a member of the Elks Lodge No. 500.
