M. GAIL POOL - Was born in Udah, Kansas, on October 11, 1889, the son of R. W. and Lottie (Cole) Pool, both of whom were natives of Ohio and who settled in Kansas. The other children were: Mabel, wife of L. W. Jennings of Gary, Indiana; Rollo W., who is vice president of the Albe-Pool Company; and M. Gail. After leaving Kansas the parents of Mr. Pool moved to Streator, Illinois, and here our subject attended school; on the completion of his studies he engaged in the manufacture of ice cream, first at Streator, later at Joliet and Chicago Heights, and finally at Valparaiso. His service in this business covered a period of seven years and on retiring from this he entered the dairy business in Valparaiso. His next venture was as the proprietor of a billiard hall, and in 1920 he became associated with Julius Albe; two years later the firm added an extensive wholesale tobacco department to the business. In 1925 it was incorporated under the firm name of Albe-Pool Company with a capital stock of $17,000. The officers are: Julius Albe, president; Rollo W. Pool, vice president; and M. G. Pool, secretary-treasurer.
Mr. M. G. Pool is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Elks, Modern Woodmen, American Legion, and the Moose. He enlisted for service in the World war in the Motor Transport Corps at Winona Lake Training Camp, remaining there for six weeks, and after seven weeks at Indianapolis was mustered out December 19, 1919. He is very active in civic affairs, and occupies a prominent place in the fraternal life of the community, having filled several chairs in the Loyal Order of Moose.
