Transcribed biography of Roy Marion Pillman
ROY MARION PILLMAN, the able manager of the LaPorte Lumber and Coal Company, was born in Chesterton, Indiana, in 1891, the son of Charles E. Pillman, who was a carpenter and native of Sweden, but settled in Chesterton at a very early date. He married Maude Babcock, who was born in Babcock, Indiana - the town being named for her father, William Babcock, who was one of the founders of the place. To Charles and Maud Pillman were born the following children: Roy M., Glenn, Earl, William, Clarence, and Edna. Our subject attended the schools of his native town, and in 1911 came to LaPorte. He joined the concern of which he is now the directing head, and in 1912 he was made manager. This company was incorporated in April, 1912, as a closed corporation, the officers of which are: Julius Travis, president; O. L. Sutherland, vice president; J. V. Dorland, secretary and treasurer; and R. M. Pillman, manager. Mr. Pillman is a member of the Indiana Retail Lumbermen's Association, Chamber of Commerce, Y. M. C. A., Elks, K. of P., and the Moose Lodge.
