Transcribed biography of Earl McMillen
EARL McMILLEN – The enterprising partner of the well-known realty firm of Morony-McMillen, Incorporated, who has attained much distinction due to his success in realty development and in other avenues of endeavor, was born in Forest, Ohio, on September 2, 1902, the son of Hayes and Vera (Shafer) McMillen, both of whom were natives of Ohio. The father was engaged in the mail service for a number of years. To his marriage were born two children: Earl and Thelma, the wife of Charles Foster, of the firm of Foster Lumber Company, of Valparaiso. Our subject removed with his parents to Valparaiso in 1909 and graduated from the high school in that city in 1920. He later attended Valparaiso University. On leaving school he accepted a position with the Burroughs Adding Machine Company, working out of the Indianapolis branch, and in that capacity acquired intensive sales training that has been such a helpful adjunct in his later activities. He went to Florida during the boom in that state and established a realty office at Miami Beach, meeting with a success commensurate with the opportunities. Returning to Valparaiso he became associated with Thomas Morony in the founding of the firm of Morony-McMillen, Incorporated. He has been successful in this line, and is generally regarded as one of the able and enterprising young men of this region. Much in business success is expected to be heard from him.
