Transcribed biography of Harry R. Marrell

HARRY R. MARRELL was born in Porter Township, Porter County. Indiana, on October 2, 1883, the son of John and Sallie (Nelson) Marrell, the former a native of Ohio and the latter of southern Indiana. He received his education in the country schools, and assisted his father in the usual duties of the farm. His first active work in other avenues was with the Powers-Higley Company, which is now the L. E. Myers Company of Valparaiso. In 1908 he formed an association with Harry Lutge in the distribution of milk. Four years later they disposed of this business and Mr. Marrell then purchased a confectionery store which he conducted until 1916. Two years later they again engaged in the milk business in Valparaiso, and Mr. Marrell has continued in this line since.

He formed a partnership in October, 1923, with Allen J. White operating the Cloverleaf Dairy. This concern enjoys a wide distribution of pasteurized milk and cream and incidentally they are interested in dairy farming. Their products are sold largely in Porter County, and the demand for the product has grown immensely due to the fact that they use only milk from tested herds. A depot is maintained to receive the milk each day, which averages about two hundred fifty gallons per day.

Mr. Marrell was married to Katherine, daughter of Henry and Mary Rurep of Chicago, on November 26, 1913. To this union were born three sons: Vernon, Ray and Richard. Mr. Marrell is a member of the Masonic order, Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce, and takes a generally active interest in the larger affairs of this community.
