Historical Images of Porter County
Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Grading Train
Woodville, Indiana
Date: 1912
Source Type: Postcard
Publisher, Printer, Photographer: Unknown
(possibly August F. Haase)
Postmark: May 24, 1912, Woodville, Indiana
Collection: Steven R. Shook
Remark: This postcard image was taken with
the photographer looking northwest, probably in the midafternoon given the cast
of the shadows. The photographer was likely standing on present day County Road
900 North when taking the photograph.
It appears that "MALONE MORAN & PATTERSON" is painted on the side of the ballast
railcars.
The individuals standing on the railcars are in all likelihood residents of the
small community of Woodville.
The following message, sent to Mr. E. Williams PM [paymaster] at Furnessville,
Indiana, appears on the reverse of this postcard:
"Woodville Ind.
Yes you may send me the money I Dep [deposited?] with you wen [when] Loding
[loading] train"
D Linderman"
"D. Linderman" is very likely to be David E. Linderman, a longtime resident of
Woodville. David was born May 7, 1874, in Porter County and died on January 20,
1937, at Woodville; he is buried in the Chesterton Cemetery located a few miles
north of Woodville.
David Linderman established Linderman's Nursery in 1928, which operated for many
decades in Porter County's Liberty Township..
