Remark: The building shown in the postcard are as follows:
• Far Left: This is believed to be the Gardner residence. Will Gardner and his
wife Estella resided at 207 North Washington Street in Valparaiso. This house
still stands [2024].
• Top Center: The Memorial Opera House, named so as to commemorate the soldiers
of the Civil War, was designed by Valparaiso architect Charles F. Lembke. The
structure, which still stands [2024], is located at 104 East Indiana Avenue and
was built during 1892 and 1893.
• Bottom Center: The Romanesque style Gardner School, which still stands [2024],
is located at 354 West Jefferson Street in Valparaiso. The school was
constructed in 1899 by Kirk & Foster at a cost $12,000.
• Far Right: Thomas A. E. Campbell residence. This house was built by a Mr.
Shade and was located on Chestnut Street in Valparaiso between Campbell Street
and Weston Avenue. The house was demolished in December 1938.
