Postmark: October 4, 1918, Valparaiso, Indiana
Collection: Steven R. Shook
Remark: Columbia Hall at Valparaiso University was used as a barracks during World War I. It was located northeast of the present day intersection of Mound Street and Greenwich Street. Mound Hall, also used as a barracks during the war, was immediately to the right of Columbia Hall in this postcard image - just past the man sitting at the far right. The message on the reverse of this postcard states, in part: "I got [a] shot for typhoid today. Arm sore. This is our barracks my room is marked with a cross. I am in the army for sure. I am to study for artillery officers training."
