to be an M. L. Photo Company photograph

Remark: In 1890, the Hydraulic Press Brick
Company established a large production facility at Porter. On October 21, 1904,
the plant was destroyed by fire, with the exception of the barns, clay sheds,
and some minor buildings. The fire resulted in a loss reported to be $50,000.
Early in the spring of 1905 the plant was rebuilt, and the buildings were made
to be more fire proof. In 1912, the company employed 90 men and turned out
75,000 bricks per day. The brick yard clay pit was located at 100 West Beam
Street, where the present day Yost Elementary School now stands.
