Remark: The first religious services in
Pleasant Township took place at the home of John Jones
in 1836. Early services among the Lutherans of Pleasant Township were rather informal
and changed from house to house. Later, services took place in the various
township school houses. In 1882, the first church structure, a wood frame
building, was built in Kouts at a cost of approximately $1,000. The labor to
construct the original St. Paul's Lutheran Church was provided mostly by members
of the church. In 1908, a brick church, seen here, was constructed across from
the old church.
