Remark:
The Presbyterians were the first religious group to organize a congregation and erect a house of
worship in the southern part of Porter County. This church was located in Pleasant
Township and erected at the village of Tassinong. The Tassinong church now would be in Morgan township
given township boundary changes. The first session of the Tassinong Presbyterian
Church took place on August 24, 1848, with Reverend Spencer Baker presiding with
church elders George Biggart and John Freer. Services at the Tassinong
Presbyterian Church church ceased in 1898. A new Presbyterian church structure
at Kouts, seen here, was erected during 1903 and 1904, and the first session at
the church was held in February of 1904.
