Remark: Donley’s Landing, more often
referred to as Donley's Resort, was named for proprietor James Donley and was
situated along the north shoreline of the original channel of the Kankakee
River. The resort was formerly known as the Rockville, Terre Haute, and
Indianapolis Hunt Club.
Adjacent to Donley’s Resort was the Louisville Hunt Club to the southeast and
the White House Hunt Club to the northwest. Donley’s Resort converted the
Rockville, Terre Haute, and Indianapolis Hunt Club’s clubhouse into a hotel.
James Donley would sell his property to Jesse Smith and the location became
known as Smith’s Dance Hall.
