Remark: Bertha Wannegar is the women on the
left in this photograph. Bertha was the daughter of Frank Wannegar, who was the
proprietor of the Porter Livery.
Lawson's Studio, the business visible to the left, was located at 748 Valparaiso
Street (known today as Calumet Avenue). This photograph was taken north of the
Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railroad tracks while facing southeast on
Valparaiso Street. The building visible to the far right in the photograph was a
pump house owned and operated by the railroad.
Bertha (Wannegar) Anderson was born on May 23, 1882, in Indiana, and married
Emil Anderson in Joliet, Will County, Illinois, on October 23, 1916. Bertha died
on January 17, 1968, in Porter County, Indiana, and was buried in Chesterton
Cemetery in Chesterton, Porter County, Indiana.
