Remark: An interurban car operated by the
Goshen, South Bend & Chicago Railroad arrives in Chesterton from LaPorte and has
its freight unloaded. This photograph was taken on
Broadway Avenue near Wood Street. This train would have traveled from LaPorte to
Goodrum Junction onto the Valparaiso & Northern Railway line north to
Chesterton. Incorporated in August 1908, the Valparaiso & Northern Railway
construction was financed by citizens of Valparaiso and outside investors; the
railway was to become one of the feeder lines the the Chicago-New York Electric
Air Line Railroad.
