Remark: This photograph was taken at the depot
grounds in Wheeler. Across the roadway the store of O. G. Larson General
Merchandise is visible. Odin G. Larson operated his general merchandise store
until 1915 when he declared bankruptcy. The store was then taken into
receivership and soon after purchased by Franklin (Frank) Leslie Longshore. At
the time of his purchase, Longshore was also operating a general merchandise
store in Valparaiso. Longshore moved all of his Valparaiso stock to Wheeler,
where he became quite successful.
Odin G. Larson moved to the Chesterton area soon after his store failed and
began a new occupation as a painter. He passed away on Monday, June 7, 1965, and
was interred in the Chesterton Cemetery.
