Remark: Published in "Headlight: Sights and Scenes Along the Grand Trunk Railway," Volume 3, Number 6. The building with the stone tower to the right in this image was the Porter County Jail, while the large Italianate structure next to it served as the residence for the sheriff of Porter County. Located at 153 South Franklin Street, both structures were built around 1871 at a cost of $26,500. They served their original purpose until 1974 when a new Porter County Jail was built on Franklin Street.
