Remark: This photograph was taken looking east down Main Street (Lincolnway) from Washington Street, the Porter County Court House square being behind the trees on the far right. The men in the white uniforms are meat cutters. The dark colored banner being carried by one of the meat cutters states: "We EAT WAR OR NO WAR." Signs visible on the buildings include H. S. Herrick's Groceries, Fruits, and Vegetables; Rockwell and Stockman, Lawyers; F. R. Marine, Lawyer; Porter County Abstract Company; Szold's Department Store; Olympia Candy and Ice Cream; Beach Jewelry; Dancing School; John H. Ross Hardware; Bakery; and Dentist.
