Long Lake Hotel on Long Lake
Valparaiso, Indiana
Date: Circa 1930
Source Type: Postcard
Publisher, Printer, Photographer: Brooks
Photo (#204)
Postmark: None
Collection: Steven R. Shook
Remark: As early as 1876, J. Hamell owned the property abutting the
northwest corner of Flint Lake and the eastern shore of Long Lake. A resort was
located in this area, which also included a natural channel connecting Flint
Lake with Long Lake. Seen in this entry to the Long Lake Hotel. An interurban
station along the Valparaiso & Northern Railway was located about one block from
the beach on the opposite side of the lake from the Long Lake Hotel. Individuals
arriving by train would walk to the beach and then take a boat or ferry across
the lake to the hotel facilities seen here.
