Remark: Henry B. Brown, president of the Northern Indiana Normal School, purchased this home in September 1880 for $4,000. The home, located on Morgan Boulevard and East Jefferson Street, was built by William T. Calkins and the location was commonly referred to as "Calkins' Hill." Brown entertained numerous guests in this house, including William Jennings Bryan, William Howard Taft, Governor Thomas Marshal, and the president of the Irish Republic, Eamon DeValera. The home later became the White House Restaurant, and now operates as a bridal shop and reception hall.
