Remark: Camp Good Fellow, located on Howe
Road, was a summer camp constructed by the United States Steel Company for
children of its employees. Comprising a total of 63 acres located along the
Little Calumet River, the camp operated from 1941 to 1976. In 1976, the National
Park Service purchased the property as part of its expansion of the Indiana
Dunes National Lakeshore. Today, the Indiana Dunes Environmental Learning Center
occupies the former Good Fellow Camp property.
